Monsoon Malabar Coffee

Monsoon Malabar Coffee

As the name suggets, Monsoon Malabar (MM) is a unique Coffee Blend of Arabica Beans that have been exposed to the rains of the Malabar Coast. The history of this coffee is said to be traced back to the colonial times of the British Raj. It is said that while transporting the coffee beans from India to Europe, due to leakages in the containers aboard the cargo ships the beans were exposed to the sea winds causing a natural fermentation which led to a unique flavour profile.

The same phenomenon is now replicated by curing works along the Malabar Coast where great care is taken to expose the beans only to the winds of the monsoon rains during the period of June to September. The beans are then sun-dried and processed further to ensure only the best AA Grade beans with no defects make the cut. The moisture from the rains is retained by the beans giving the coffee a very mild flavour with a fruity aftertaste that is a rarity amongst coffees considering it has no added flavours of any kind. It is regarded as one of the three finest speciality coffees of India along with Mysore Nugget Extra Bold and Robusta Kaapi Royale.

Being a medium roast, this flavour is low on acidity and gives a beautiful light brown to golden colour in the cup. It has a sweetish finish, adding very rich crema to espresso cup. Tasting notes include spice, wood, chocolate and nuts.

This coffee is not the kind you'd want to consume if your in a rush. A drink fit for kings only demands its due and is best had slowly with a dash of cinnamon and honey as a palate cleansner post your meal or for those Sunday mornings when you wish to wake up relaxed and at peace. Take your time with it and your patience will be rewarded.
